Yoga Styles:
Hatha Yoga probably the most popular form of yoga in the West. "Ha" meaning Sun and "tha" meaning Moon. Many schools of yoga have come from Hatha Yoga such as Astanga (Sri K. Pattabhi Jois), Iyengar (BKS Iyengar), Viniyoga (TKV Desikachar, Krishnamacharya's son), Sivananda, Jivamukti to name a few.
Hatha Vinyasa Flow is a flowing sequence of hatha postures linked to the breath. Sun salutations (vinyasas) are practiced between a set of postures. These classes are designed to build strength, tone and condition the body and help you mentally with stronger focus and concentration. The HVF classes are also designed for the hot studio and taught to music.
Antenatal Pregnancy Yoga Suitable from 14 weeks. The focus is on preparing the mind and body for birth, breathing and relaxation exercises. A balanced class of Hatha Yoga postures to build strength and stamina. Yoga is an empowering practice and it provides you with tools to take care of yourself. Classes will also include postures or modifications to help alleviate common side effects of pregnancy eg. back ache, swollen ankles, tiredness, heartburn, SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) or PGP (Pelvic Girdle Pain).
Postnatal, Mums & Babies Yoga Suitable from 6-8 weeks following checks from your doctor. The aim is to nurture, rebuild and strengthen your body from inside then out with gentle yoga postures, strengthening pelvic floor muscle and healing breaths practiced with your baby. This is a lovely way to continue the connection with your beautiful baby. Classes are either taught in the comfort of your own home with just the two of you (Dads/Partners are welcome too), or continue to share your yoga with the mums & babies you've met through Pregnancy Yoga. If you're unable to make class, book a private session in the comfort of your own home.
Yin Yoga focuses on gently stretching the connective tissue, ligaments and joints which are not normally exercised in more active styles of yoga which focus on stretching muscles (Yang Yoga). The fundamental characteristic of Yin Yoga is holding postures for several minutes to target connective tissue. Postures are floor based focusing on the lower body, hips and spine. A Yin practice beautifully complements a Yang practice and Yang lifestyle.
Classes will include Pranayama (breathwork), Asanas (postures), visualisation/meditation techniques and guided relaxation. Classes will help you to relax, still the mind, re-energise and de-stress. Take time out to balance your mind, body and spirit.
Moksha Yoga (Moksha is a sanscrit word meaning Liberation or Freedom) is a hugely popular form of hot hatha yoga from Canada, that is ideal for the yoga beginner as well as the seasoned practitioner. Every Moksha Yoga class takes you through a series of strengthening and toning postures in the detoxifying calm of a heated studio. The focus of the class changes each week.
